So, there's no disagreement here. All sources say Anton Gerashchenko, whom Nishant cites as credible, is a Nazi killer. Even RFE & the DFL can be considered "leftist", which I personally would consider more authoritive, but Wikipedia for some reason (probably to please its leftist audience) used the Daily Beast. So I corroborated the claims, and held in reserve my "right wing" sources being that there is no dispute, saving them from criticism.

Yah this is an interesting story. Personally, I think it's somewhat unlikely, but OTOH, it warrants some coverage and speculation. I just don't like posting speculative pieces on MPR without some solid background - like a reaction from Manchin or hint from Manchin that he's thinking about it.

Manchin's main problem is it would be the end of his Senate career. Even Bernie had enough brains not to go the 3rd party route. Unless somebody is promising Manchin a several million-dollar-a-year job to help elect Trump or DeSantis, he has no reason to destroy his future in the US Senate.

First off, I doubt Trump or RNC donors would bribe Manchin to help elect Trump, so that leaves DeSantis' globalists donors who wouldn't care if Biden got re-elected and would only do it if RFK Jr were the nominee; secondly, don't underestimate Manchin's political skills at reading the WV electorate. This looks more like to me the Democrat national party (DSCC) not wanting to fund Manchin's Senate campaign, leaving him to fund raise exclusively from WV donors and face out-of-state Republican money. So they may be looking for another Democrat for a primary challenge.

What they are admitting to is twofold: (1) a loss of WV redneck conservatives, possibly a Senate seat, and however many electoral votes WV has; and (2) a weakness among Democrat redneck conservatives nationwide. I don't know the solution, it's their problem.

West Virginia voters aren't afraid to be ticket splitters, although there are probably more hard noses in the Democrat party. This dust up is more about campaign finance than ideology. He's looking for new donors.

By contrast, it is almost indisputable at this point that Ukraine has 150,000 killed in action. Using a long-established formula, multiply that figure by 3 to get casualties who will never return to the battlefield (that figure also may include civilian casualties with permanent injuries).

Here's an interesting piece of propaganda: the POW ratio usually works in tandem with the kill ratio. The Ukrainians have never held more than 800 Russian POWs at one time before a prisoner exchange is negotiated, but the Russians had 15,000 more Ukrainians than Ukraine held Russians months ago, and the number still grows daily. Typically, when Ukraine gets 300-350 Russian POWs, the Russian sides begins negotiating for their release. 7,000 prisoners were taken in Azovstal, of which about 2,400 will go through the de-nazification process or stand trial for war crimes. Now, you will recall how Zelensky Western MSM touting all these guys as heroes. So of the 4,500 non-Nazi prisoners, how come Zelensky hasn't added any of their names to prisoner exchange list? The Russians are not stupid - they know that if they are lying about this, it will b discovered sooner or later. My bet is you will soon be hearing about a few Azovstal prisoners returning home.

And one more point, Ukraine officially has 73,000 MIA, at least that's what the families who haven't heard from their loved ones in months have been told. They are not on the POW list. They either deserted or were KIA'd (add that number to 150,000). Of course, you hear nothing in Western media about wives asking Zelensky where their husbands are or what happened to them. Russia has only 3 outlets to the rest of the world - Murmansk (covered in ice most of the year), Vladivostak in the far east on the Pacific Ocean, and Sevastopol in the Crimea and Black Sea, which gives access to the Mediterranean and Africa. The UK and NATO want Sevastopol as a naval base for NATO. That's why they overthrew the democratically elected government of Ukraine in 2014. They weren't happy about Russia's intervention in the Syrian war in 2012 after the US withdrew from Iraq and NATO's efforts to overthrow the Syrian regime.

So while 200 or 308 might reflect the number of aerial engagements, you have to ask, "Why would Russia use up 30% of its fleet when it has the whole US, UK, and German airforces out there waiting to contend with? Are they that stupid or suicidal?" Hence the numbers of 200 or 308 actually reflect the level of threat Ukraine is incapable of defending against, but is turned around to produce a short-term propaganda headline, which becomes demoralizing in the long run when the truth becomes known by the public. First of all, the Apocrypha, rejected by both Jews and Protestants, are not the inspired word of God due to contradictions, historical inaccuracies, and lack of referencing from the New Testament. Secondly, it's important to understand that while there are some individuals currently in Heaven, such as Enoch, Moses, and Elijah, the large majority sleep in the grave. See Psalm 13:3, 115:17, Ecclesiastes 9:5, 9:10, John 11:11–15, and Acts 7:60, along with the dozens more verses describing death as a sleep. That's not correct. Firstly, even if only allegedly a few like Enoch, Moses and Elijah are in Heaven, then Mother Mary and Father Abraham certainly are among them, as Rev 12:1 and Luk 16:24 show. Jesus Christ in Luke 16 also refutes the SDA's opinions because He shows the souls of the departed, in both Heaven and Hades, are still alive, the one in conscious pleasure, the other in conscious pain.

As hinted above in the post about a 10-14 day allocation for an AFU offensive, the way offensives are planned is you allocate the amount of munitions you believe will be required for a mass-sustained high-intensity campaign of a certain X amount of days. So let’s say Russia plans a two month long offensive where they want to be able to fire the 60k+ shells per day which they previously needed to advance on a consistent basis. The point is that, let’s say they want to build up a healthy stockpile for a major offensive or series of offensives.

"That would be 60k per day multiplied by 60 days (two months). This is 3,600,000 shells. Now, Russia produces an estimated 300k shells per month currently, perhaps more, but certainly they hope to ramp it up past that, though we don’t know how much more they can do so, or by when. But taking 300k per month into account, this equals 10k per day. Yet they’re currently said to be firing 10-20k per day. Let’s say hypothetically they are producing more, like 400-500k a month. Either way, this allows them to “save” and stockpile only an additional 100-200k shells per month, while the rest are fired straight from the oven, so to speak.

"At 100-200k per month, they would need upwards of a whopping 18 to 36 months just to save up the 3,600,000 shells needed for a high intensity campaign of a mere two months. You see the problem? They’ve already been stockpiling for at least 6 months, since last November. But this has theoretically only given them a surplus of maybe 600k - 1.2M shells.

"There could be ways around this problem: for instance, maybe they are producing much more than we know of, although it begins to stretch credulity at the higher end of the scale simply because, were they to be producing let’s say 800k shells per month or more, this would be several orders of magnitude more than the entire rest of the world combined. Sure, Russia is an economic powerhouse but we can’t get too unrealistic about their capabilities. To me, 500-700k per month could be a high realistic limit, but even then they would need many, many months of stockpiling just to gather enough stock for a high-intensity offensive. Of course, we’re only talking about strictly artillery shells here, and Russia is producing much more of other types of systems as well, which will offset the shell hunger.

"But this is all just to give a very generalized perspective on why they may be idling their forces for a long time. Recall what Prigozhin said: there is an exact calculation for how much more men are lost when there is a given shell deficit. Half the required shells creates double or triple the losses—something like that. The point being that, for Russia to actively advance without incurring massive losses, they need a healthy amount of shells to be fired to suppress the enemy.

"So, how long will Russia sit and stockpile shells? It’s impossible to say for certain as no one knows the exact numbers of what they’re actually producing. But they could very well choose to stockpile until next year, even next summer if need be. I’ve said it before, but they may very well spend this entire year simply attritioning the AFU in this low-intensity, low-risk manner of slow-crawl advances under cover of moderate rates of shelling.

Remarkable example of historical narrative

The oxygen is sucked out of some of the shelters where thousands are hiding - suffocating everyone inside. Anyone caught above ground is burnt away. People seeking refuge in the water in the numerous canals will sometimes be lucky, and live through the firestorm as it rages above their heads, and they can breath when oxygen is sucked in through the canal system. Others will be less lucky when water surface oil-spills from the damaged harbor ignites, burning them alive, yet more will drown.

Before the fires are put out, and before the deaths can even be counted, the British bombers return.

On the night of 29 to 30 July, 707 bombers drop even more bombs than on the 27th. Firefighters can do little but watch as new fires erupt in the city - though it is nowhere near the likes of the firestorm from just days before.

The last of the raids set for the next nigh on July 30 is cancelled due to bad weather over Great Britain, and will instead take place next week, but it will be largely unsuccessful. That is however immaterial for Bomber Command as the raids have already not only reached their combined goal, but also proven both that a firestorm can be created, and that the Window decoy defense works.

The RAF has only lost 2,5% of its force - significantly below the average of 4% in the Battle of the Ruhr.

It will take months for the Germans to assess the damage.

By the end of the war, German authorities estimate that the raids destroyed 61% of the Hamburg and suburb residential areas, and one million people were displaced. Hundreds of thousands are wounded, tens of thousands seriously, and 37,000 have died. Out of the remains that will be recovered only 40% will ever be identified, the rest are burnt beyond identification, often to the point of being nothing more than a pile of ash.

The vengeful among us will say that it serves them right, after all their political leaders started this war. Their Luftwaffe did the same to Great Britain, Poland, and in the Netherlands. In their nation's name, a handful men equipped with sidearms and machine guns killed only slightly fewer men, women, children, and infants in only two days at Baby Yar two years ago. And then they did that again, and again, and again until millions had been murdered, and they're still doing it.

The pragmatists among us will say that it's the terrible price that Humanity has to pay to defeat the horror of Naziism, and even if it didn't work to do that, even if there was indication early on that it wouldn't work, at the time that couldn't be determined with any certainty.

The lead architect of the horror inflicted on Hamburg's civilians belonged to both groups - he was shown with evidential arguments that it would probably not win the war, and that the price would be too high, both measured in dead aircrews and civilians - but he disagreed, and fell back to that if nothing else it would be retribution, or as he said himself: "They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind."

That was also the popular majority sentiment that gave him the political support to proceed. It is perhaps understandable, even justifiable - but is that what we want to aspire to be? Vengeful pragmatists? Never Forget.

Don't know about the US, but Mother's Day has deep Christian roots in the UK. Before the Reformation, the Catholic Church expected everyone to take the Eucharist at least once a year. Mothering Sunday fell on the fourth Sunday in Lent as an open invitation to people to return to the Church / proper practice / communion before Holy Week. The idea that it was a day of rest and indulgence for mothers does not fit in with the 17th century religious, political or social scene; it's very much a twentieth century import.

At a tangent, Father's Day falls on the feast on St Joseph in many countries.
