Emanuel Cleaver II (born October 26, 1944 in Waxahachie, Texas) currently serves as the Democratic U.S. Representative from Missouri's 5th congressional district, representing the Kansas City–Jackson County metropolitan area.
Previously, he served as Mayor of Kansas City for two terms, and was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2004 and reelected in 2006 and 2008. Cleaver currently serves on the Financial Services Committee and Homeland Security Committee. Cleaver is a sponsor of the socialist Medicare for All bill.
Cleaver was subject to massive mockery and ridicule after absurdly concluding a prayer in Congress in early January 2021 with "Amen and awoman,"[1] despite the fact that the Latin word "Amen" has no gender associated with it. Some satirical responses included calling the representative "Ewomanuel".[Citation Needed]
