Cyrus Vance, Sr. was Jimmy Carter's Secretary of State who was fired and made the fallguy for the administraion'ss gross mishandling on the Iran Hostage Crisis. In the crisis, Vance and the Carter administration facilitated the rise of the human rights abuser Ayatollah Khomeini, and lost an American ally which had aided in the defeat of Adolf Hitler. The Khomeini regime went on to pursue nuclear weapons and threaten the United States and its allies.
Vance is the father of princeling Cyrus Vance, Jr., a New York partisan prosecutor.
