August 31

Presidential nominee Barack Obama accepted his party's nomination Thursday at the Democratic convention. The night started with a tribute film to Senator Obama, with some of his most influential mentors - Jeremiah Wright, Tony Rezko, and William Ayers noticeably absent. Then the freshman Senator from Illinois took the stage, and wasted no time going on the attack of President George W. Bush and Republican candidate John McCain.

Right to Life group claims its DNC sign is Guinness record

American Right to Life Action, an anti-abortion group, claims to have displayed the largest ever protest sign in history, towering over the Democratic National Convention in Denver at 530 feet tall and 666 feet wide. The sign says "Destroys uNborn Children" [sic], with the words appearing one atop each other to also form the acronym "DNC." Guinness Book of World Records assigned American Right To Life an official world record attempt number: 228132, according to the group. [1]

Labeled by the GOP, Democrats worry about 'Obama the Celebrity' image. [2]
Senior Democratic officials have serious concerns about the political risks associated with his acceptance speech on August 28th at Invesco Field. The event gives Republicans a chance to drive home their message that the Democratic nominee is a narcissistic celebrity candidate.

Vice presidential candidate Joe Biden told Pennsylvania delegates Thursday that running mate Barack Obama can't win the White House without the Keystone State. [3]

Democrats Meet in Denver for Day 3 of Convention
Many high profile Democrats met in Denver Wednesday for their national convention, where Barack Obama finally won the delegates to become the Democrat nominee, and would later make a short cameo. Former President Bill Clinton spoke and endorced Senator Obama's presidential campaign, saying "Barack Obama is ready to be President of the United States." This is surprising, since Clinton once said about Obama, "When was the last time we elected someone President based on one year of service in the Senate? In theory, we could find someone who is a gifted television commentator and let them run. They'd have only one year less experience in national politics." [4] Delaware Senator and Vice Presidential nominee Joe Biden gave a much anticipated speech. Biden did not stick to the beliefs he had just a year ago, when he said about Obama, "I think he can be ready but right now, I don’t believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training." [5] Biden also criticized Republican candidate John McCain, although this was probably difficult, since he once said, "John McCain is a personal friend, a great friend, and I would be honored to run with or against John McCain, because I think the country would be better off."

Day 2 of convention, August 26th
Delegates see if Democrats speak a different tone about Barack Obama. Governor Ed Rendell, D-Pennsylvania, spoke last evening, who once attacked Obama for saying that people in Pennsylvania are "bitter" and "clinging to their guns and religion." [6].
New York Senator Hillary Clinton spoke, who once said, "Senator John McCain has a life time of experience that he will bring to the White House, and Senator Obama has a speech he gave in 2002. It's imperative that each of us be able to demonstrate we can cross the commander in chief threshold. I believe that I have done that and certainly Senator McCain has done that. You will have to ask Senator Obama with respect to his candidacy." [7]

Racial infighting among Democrats, which marred the presidential primaries, has flared up again at the party’s convention in Denver, where a black Hillary Clinton delegate is accusing a black Barack Obama delegate of calling her an “Uncle Tom.” [8]

Several front-runners for McCain's VP have reportedly been eliminated from consideration, according to these stories about Pawlenty and Romney.

John McCain Prepares to Announce His VP. Closely held announcement expected at rally today in Dayton, Ohio, to kick off "Road to the Convention" tour. [9]

John McCain near to picking a running mate. [10]

Mitt Romney with his strong experience is emerging Thursday afternoon as the most likely VP for John McCain; later the speculation turned to Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, perhaps due to his early support of McCain.

John McCain has privately selected his running mate, and we suspect it may be a surprise pick: conservative Congressman Eric Cantor. [11] So far the media does not agree, focusing instead on Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty or Joe Lieberman.

"Democrats had the first night of their 2008 convention. Democrats started with a tribute film to Senator Ted Kennedy (D-Massachusetts) that included footage of the Kennedys on their private yacht. Senator Ted Kennedy, just from recovering from a brain tumor, then took the center stage. Michelle Obama, spouse of candidate Barack Obama spoke, saying that she 'loves America.' Contrary to comments she made last February, saying 'for the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country.' Barack Obama spoke to delegates via video."

Margaret Thatcher

Conservapedians will wish to remember former British leader Margaret Thatcher in their prayers. Her daughter has just revealed that the great Conservative stateswoman has been suffering from dementia for some years. All those who value freedom will be grieved by this very sad news. [12]

Obama and Income Redistribution [20]
"Wealth accrues to those who know how to accrue it, and taking it from them and giving it to others prevents those who know what to do with money from growing the economy and creating jobs for others, and giving it to those who don't know what to do with money simply results in its dissipation."

Joe Biden's plagiarism problem [22]

Apparently the Obama campaign ordered the fraudulent Obama-Bayh bumper stickers to mislead the public.[23] Does that sound presidential?

The Christian vote, an increasingly important factor in British politics, is likely to prove a crucial factor in defeating socialism at the next general election. Analysis: Biden pick shows lack of confidence. (By RON FOURNIER, Associated Press Writer.)

Biden pick underscores Obama's weakness, not strength:

The candidate of change went with the status quo. In picking Sen. Joe Biden to be his running mate, Barack Obama sought to shore up his weakness — inexperience in office and on foreign policy — rather than underscore his strength as a new-generation candidate defying political conventions. [25]

Joseph Biden

2008 presidential candidate Barack Obama selects Delaware Senator Joseph Biden as his running mate. Of interest, Joe Biden has a son in the Delaware National Guard who will be going to Iraq this fall. Biden can, of course, run for re-election to the Senate and for Vice President under Delaware election law. WorldNetDaily. [26]

More professor values: Iowa Professor Arthur Miller has disappeared after being "accused of offering higher grades to female students in exchange for sexual favors. He was charged Aug. 8 with four felony counts of accepting bribes and released without bail"; police abandon a search after wasting thousands of dollars looking for him.[27]

Indiana Senator Evan Bayh and Virginia Governor Tim Kaine have been told by Democratic 2008 presidential candidate Barack Obama's campaign they will not be his vice presidential choice. [28]

Republicans carried Indiana by 60%-39% in 2004, making it unreachable for Obama and meaning that Bayh has little to offer to the ticket.

Medistem has announced that they have found and isolated an adult stem cell that can regenerate cells from the heart, lung, liver, pancreas, blood vessels, brain, muscle, bone and fat. Animal testing has shown that they can regenerate blood vessels in legs, thus avoiding amputation.

There is no global warming in the most recent 10 years of data. [30]
So far, 2008 has had the coldest temperature of the 21st century. This has not had an impact on alarmist viewpoints, who continue to use certain pieces of information to sustain their biased position.

Media Research Center: Networks Gave Barack Obama the Nomination.
“At every step of his national political career, network reporters showered the IllinoisSenator with glowing media coverage, building him up as a political celebrity and exhibiting little interest in investigating his past associations or exploring the controversies that could have threatened his campaign.” [37]

August 24

William Ayers, the unrepentant domestic terrorist from the Weather Underground, established the non-profit group 'Chicago Annenberg Challenge' at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The university has refused to release records relating to Barack Obama's service as the group's first chairman. [38]

More Hollywood Values: 24-year-old singer Amy Winehouse checks into rehabilitation "like a broken record"; Howard Stern sidekick Artie Lang checks into an outpatient rehab.[39] Isn't Hollywood so cool?

Forty years ago something horrible happened to the American Left and to its host, the Democratic Party. [40]

For the protection of the Democratic Party, the Denver Police Department has established a newly discovered detention center for mass arrests during the Democratic National Convention in Colorado. The city-owned warehouse jail includes cages and signs warning of stun-gun use. [41] [42]

An eye-opening survey reveals widespread belief that divine intervention can revive dying patients. And, researchers said, doctors "need to be prepared to deal with families who are waiting for a miracle."

More than half of randomly surveyed adults - 57 percent - said God's intervention could save a family member even if physicians declared treatment would be futile. And nearly three-quarters said patients have a right to demand such treatment. [46]

College presidents from about 100 of the nation's best-known universities, including Duke, Dartmouth and Ohio State, are calling on lawmakers to consider lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18. Yet nearly all peer-reviewed studies looking at the change showed raising the drinking age reduced drunk-driving deaths. A survey of research from the U.S. and other countries by the Centers for Disease Control and others reached the same conclusion. [47]

The California Supreme court has issued a ruling denying doctors the right to freely decide whether or not to treat a patient. Presidential contenders Barack Obama and John McCain differed sharply on abortion Saturday, with McCain saying a baby's human rights begin "at conception," while Obama restated his support for legalized abortion. [53]

Congratulations to the school district of Harrold, Texas. Its decision to permit teachers and school staff to carry concealed weapons on school premises will do more to protect the young people of Harrold from potential mass murder than any amount of wooly-minded liberal hand-wringing over gun control. Story: [54] [55]

McCain's Saddleback Grand Slam [56]
McCain was energized, comfortable and quietly eloquent in explaining why his life proves the most important of qualities in a president: character and core beliefs. Obama -- consistently charming and shallow -- demonstrated neither of those qualities.

While the debate rages within the scientific community, in government and the popular press, a new DVD – titled "Global Warming or Global Governance?'" – includes interviews with scientists who explain, step by step, why Al Gore and the global warming alarmists are incorrect – in some cases, blatantly so. It also provides evidence that the global warming agenda is being funded with tens of billions of dollars as a mechanism to create global governance.

"Global Warming or Global Governance?" features Dr. Richard Lintz, Dr. Roy Spencer, Dr. John Christy, Dr. Michael Coffman, Phyllis Schlafly and many others. [69]

Two thugs entered a Chicago jewelry store and "demanded money or jewelry and pulled a gun from a bag." Surprise: the elderly owner Sergio Vazquez pulled out his .357 magnum or semiautomatic pistol and shot them. Now they are in serious-to-critical condition in the hospital.[70]

California Homeschoolers Get Reprieve [71]

Conservatives have long known that the mainstream media sees -- and then tells the rest of us about -- the world through a filter of liberal bias. After all, not only do conservatives read the bias in the morning newspaper and hear the bias on the evening news, but also survey after survey has shown that our nation’s newsrooms are filled with self-identified liberals and registered Democrats. In other words, the media’s liberal bias isn’t news, it’s just reality. [72]

To our liberal friends on Conservapedia ... 25 Reasons You Might Be a Liberal

The Associated Press promotes Barack Obama by declaring him to be a Christian (despite his Muslim name) and disparaging a critic of Obama as somehow being a "bigot". The shockingly biased AP article is here.

Our Sick Edwards-Excusing Media; "You know there are some in the liberal media who have simply lost touch with reality when the headline reads "John Edwards Cheats on Wife With Cancer" and they ask with great detachment whether he'll be able to run for office again soon. These people's morality is so bizarre that they showed more outrage at John McCain featuring a picture of Paris Hilton in a commercial for two eye-blinks than for Edwards catting around on a dying spouse:" [76]

The Netroots: America And Georgia To Blame For Russia's War Of Aggression.

Liberals, being liberals, make certain assumptions when it comes to foreign affairs. Among them are,

1) Whatever happens in the world, if it's bad, must somehow be the fault of the Bush Administration and/or America.

2) Any country that is allied with America, by virtue of being allied with America, must be in the wrong if it gets into a conflict with a nation that is not allied with America.

That brings us to Russia's war of aggression on Georgia. Russia has spent years engineering this conflict, cared nothing about the civilians it killed, and aimed to thwart democracy, intimidate other free states in the region, and to destroy an alternate route for oil outside of its borders. There were no good intentions, no higher purposes -- just the Russians attacking a smaller, weaker neighbor because it was to their advantage and no one was in a position to stop them. [77]

Barack Obama’s Muslim outreach adviser resigned after questions were raised about his ties to an imam linked to fundamental Middle Eastern groups.

Mazen Asbahi, who joined the campaign on July 26, stepped down after being contacted by the Wall Street Journal about his connections to Jamal Said, the imam of a Chicago-area mosque. The two men served together on the board of Allied Assets Advisors Fund which had ties to Hamas and to the Muslim Brotherhood according to the Journal report. [78]

Dennis Prager: Why I Am Not a Liberal

The liberal New York Times claims that Barack Obama, who has never published anything of academic value, was offered tenure by the University of Chicago![84] Astonished, Northwestern law professor Jim Lindgren "said he spoke with seven members of the Chicago faculty, 'including several of the most powerful members of the faculty in the 1998-2003 period.' Lingren says none of the seven were consulted about an Obama tenured offer, and 'some of them couldn't believe that anyone would even attempt such a move, since it would have been a 'nonstarter.'"[85]

The Chinese used deceit to make the Olympic opening ceremony fireworks display appear like it was filmed live by helicopter. In reality the audience was watching a 3-D graphics sequence that took almost a year to produce. Members of the Beijing Olympic Committee said it was necessary to replace live video with computer-generated imagery because the city’s hazy, smoggy skies made it too difficult to see. [86]
More deceit: Girl lip-synched to another's voice at Olympic opening

Barack Obama has a Catholic problem. If he doesn't do better than John Kerry did in 2004 with this quintessential swing voting bloc, he won't be elected president. Obama's campaign understands this -- which is why they're considering allowing a pro-life Democrat, Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, to speak at the Denver convention. Sen. Casey's father, the late Governor of Pennsylvania Robert Casey Sr., was denied a speaking slot at the Democrats’ 1992 convention for fear of offending pro-choice Democrats. But simply allowing his son to speak at the convention won't be enough to woo Catholics back. [87]

We were all taught it, but it's just another false liberal myth: that the non-Christian Vikings (Leif Ericson) reached North America before the devoutly Christian Christopher Columbus did. This is yet another attempt to deny and downplay Christian achievement by distorting history. See American History Lecture One, which will teach students what is true and false about American history.

Ever wonder why college students tend to be liberal? A new study shows that "college enrollment allows for a lifestyle that essentially extends the adolescent period," resulting in higher "drinking," "property theft," and "unstructured socializing with friends" compared with peers who do not go to college.

"The court finds the memorial at Mt. Soledad, including its Latin cross, communicates the primarily nonreligious messages of military service, death and sacrifice," wrote U.S. District Judge Larry Alan Burns in his decision filed Tuesday. "As such, despite its location on public land, the memorial is constitutional."[144]
Thank you, Judge Burns, for standing up to the ACLU and others and making the right decision.

President Bush's top advisers are not immune from congressional subpoenas, a federal judge ruled Thursday in an unprecedented dispute between the two political branches. House Democrats called the ruling a ringing endorsement of the principle that nobody is above the law. [145]

Conservapedia sparks more discussion on the internet: "The more the Dawkins types try to turn this into a head-on fight, the more moderate religious believers edge into Conservapedia territory."[147] Indeed. Liberals and atheists do not win in debate, and their biggest gains are in censoring the truth.

Summary of Latest Federal Individual Income Tax Data. "The top 1 percent of taxpayers (AGI over $388,806) earned approximately 22.1 percent of the nation's income (as defined by AGI), yet paid 39.9 percent of all federal income taxes. That means the top 1 percent of tax returns paid about the same amount of federal individual income taxes as the bottom 95 percent of tax returns." Remember this line every time you hear a liberal whine that the rich are not paying their fair share. [148]

Moral Relativism Is Killing the U.S. [158]
We yearn for the day when we’ll return to the foundational value that makes the U.S. great. Right and wrong are not relative terms. There are fundamental truths. Evil flourishes, but good men continue to battle it – and win. Good can and will triumph over evil.

The left supports campaign finance reform, the Fairness Doctrine and other policies allegedly aimed at ensuring that both sides of the political argument be aired. But it's a colossal fraud. The Times' rejection of McCain's piece is a case study in how liberals apply these principles. They don't believe in both sides presenting their viewpoints, but in controlling the nature and scope of the discussion. [160]

The liberal New York Times missed the revenue estimate for its second quarter, and it suffered an "82 percent plunge in the company's second-quarter earnings."[170] Its stock is worth less than one third of its value of four years ago. Let's face it: liberal ideology is a failure in a free market.
