An ionophore is a compound which forms a lipid-soluble complex in order to transport ions among and through biological membranes. (Lipid-soluble means soluble in fats or fatty tissue, as opposed to water-soluble.)

Quercetin is an ionophore for zinc and the combination may possibly help treat COVID-19, if used very early after exposure, although some are skeptical of that effect.[1]

Green tea, which is consumed more in Japan than any other country while Japan has held its mortality down to 1/50th of that in the United States, has been suggested as an excellent natural ionophore for zinc in combatting COVID-19.[2]
