Palestinian Islamic Jihad
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) is an Islamist terrorist organization, based in Damascus, Syria and very active in Gaza and beyond.
The radical Islamic extremist organization was established by Palestinian students in Egypt[1] in 1979 prominantly by Fathi Shaqaqi[2] and other former members of the Muslim Brotherhood[3] who were admirers of the Iranian Revolution and the Muslim Brotherhood ideology. The basis for the establishment of Islamic Jihad began with the Islamic Revolution in Iran in the late 1970s and Khomeini's rise to power.[1][4]
Since the death of Shaqaqi[4] it was led by Ramadan Abdullah Mohammad Shallah till 2018.[3]
It concentrates on spectacular attacks against Israeli civilians and military forces, sometimes using women and children as suicide bombers.
Its most deadly attacks include the October 2003 suicide bombing at the Maxim restaurant in Haifa, killing 22 and wounding 60; the June 2002 suicide bombing at Meggido junction, killing 17 and wounding 50; and the March 1996 suicide bombing of the Dizengoff shopping mall in Tel Aviv, killing 13 and injuring 75. Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the July 12, 2005 suicide attack on a Netanya shopping mall, killing 5 and wounding 90 and at the Netanya mall on December 5, 2005, killing 5 and wounding 50. The group claimed responsibility (along with the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade) for the April 17, 2006 bombing of the old central bus station in Tel Aviv, killing 11 and wounding 70 and the January 29, 2007 attack on a bakery in Eilat, which killed three.[1]
One of its most notable terrorist attack was committed at the Beit Lid Junction in 1995 which resulted in the death of eight Israeli soldiers. It is funded by the governments of Iran and Syria and has established an alliance with Hamas.[3] Since 1987 it is cooperating with Hezbollah and receives training from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.[5]
Then the jihadi group was under Baha' Abu al-Ata, till he was eliminated in Nov 2019.[6] Then by al-Jabari, eliminated in Aug 2022, which really hit a nerve there, disrupting terror plans, launching a harrage of hundreds of rockets into Israeli cities, triggering Operation Striking Dawn bringing down its major commanders.
It made headlines at an escape of 6 terrorists, five of them members of this Islamic-terror group have escaped prison in Sep/2021.[7][8]
The architect of that prison break actually stated that they were very well treated in Israeli prison.[9][10][11]
Like Hamas, its stated goal is the destruction of Israel.[1] The creation of an Islamic state in "Palestine" in its place as well as the belief that Islamic law should be forced on the Arab and Muslim states and then on the rest of the world. It is recognized as an terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, Australia and Israel.[3]
Like Hezbollah and Hamas, it systematically[12] [12] uses its civilian population (Human shields by terrorists). In July 2021, its depo in Gaza at a civilian area, exploded and caused injuries and deaths.[13][14]
Samir Zaqout, the head of the "Palestinian" Islamic Jihad's Political Bureau in Gaza, said in a June 8, 2023 show on Al-Quds Al-Youm TV (Palestinian Islamic Jihad - Gaza) the Muslims will conquer Rome and Europe as Muhammad foretold.[15]

Hamas and PIJ, it seems, want to continue receiving funds and weapons from Iran, but they do not want to be seen by Arabs and Muslims as mercenaries serving Iran's interests in the Middle East.
Hamas and PIJ want the Palestinians and the rest of the Arabs and Muslims to believe that their only goal is to "liberate all of Palestine, from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea" -- a euphemism for driving the Jews out of Israel and replacing it with an Islamist state.

The Iranian commander's [Maj. Gen. Gholam Ali Rashid's] statements coincide with the Biden administration's delusional commitment to the fiction that the US will somehow convince Iran to abandon its plans to acquire nuclear weapons.
While the Biden administration is talking about "diplomacy" as the best way to rein in Iran's nuclear program, the mullahs are preparing for war and advancing their scheme to annihilate Israel and, with the help of their six "armies," occupy still more Arab countries.

Aug-2022
On Aug 1 2022, IDF arrested in Jenin, a senior PIJ, the terrorist leader in Judea Samaria.[35] At the action, terrorists shot at the IDF and one "Palestinian" was killed. The PIJ then threatened to attack Israelis. In response, the IDF eliminated a PIJ top commander on Aug 5, 2022,[36] (while the terrorist was using civilians) Jabari was said to be involved in planning significant attacks against Israel, including with the use of anti-tank missiles.
The[37]strike on Islamic Jihad commander Tayseer al-Jabari, who 'planned numerous deadly attacks against Israel,' represented a 'targeted preventive action to eliminate a concrete threat.'
The military wing of the Islamic Jihad in Judea-Samaria announced a general recruitment for "harm to Israeli targets."[38]

The decision on the targeted elimination of Baha' Abu al-Ata ("there was no choice"), and the precise hit ("excellent intelligence capability") - The steps that led to the escalation.

A former Human Rights Watch (HRW) official with a long record of harsh criticism of Israeli military conduct has added his voice to the controversy around the explosion on Tuesday near the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza City — saying clearly that an Israeli air strike was not responsible.
“Whatever hit the hospital in Gaza, it wasn’t an airstrike,” Marc Garlasco — a former US Defense Department and UN official who previously served as a senior military expert with Human Rights Watch — stated in a post on X/Twitter.
“Even the smallest JDAM [Joint Direct Action Munition, a guided air-to-surface weapon] leaves a 3m crater,” Garlasco added, alongside a photograph of the impact crater in the car park adjacent to the hospital that, according to Israeli and US intelligence, was struck by a misfired missile launched against Israel by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist group.
“Widespread surface damage and total lack of cratering inconsistent with an airstrike,” Garlasco noted.
During his career at HRW from 2003-2010, Garlasco authored three highly critical reports of Israel’s military, focusing on the use of white phosphorous in Gaza, cluster munitions in Lebanon, and the demolition of Palestinian homes in Rafah, at the southern end of the Gaza Strip. In 2006, Garlasco was directly challenged by Maj. Gen. Meir Klifi of the IDF over his assertion that eight members of a Palestinian family had been killed at a Gaza beach by artillery shells fired by Israeli forces. After meeting with Klifi, Garlasco revised his conclusion, saying that the deaths were more likely caused by unexploded Israeli ordinance.
Garlasco left HRW under a cloud in 2010, following revelations the previous year that he was an avid collector of Nazi military memorabilia. He subsequently went on to become a civilian protection specialist, serving with the UN’s aid mission in Afghanistan.
