Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLF) is a Socialist party in El Salvador, that before was a Communist guerilla group.

History

Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front fought during the 1980s Salvadorian government to create a Communist dictatorship by Cuban model. Ronald Reagan supported Salvadorian government to crush the Leftist guerilla, while Cuba and Soviet Union backed the FMLF. 70,000 peoples died during the war. In the 1990s FMLA coverted into a party.

In 2009 Mauricio Funes (FMLF) was elected as Salvadorian president. In his tenure El Salvador turned into the second-worst economic performer in Latin America.[1] His vice-president, Salvador Sánchez Cerén, a won the elections of 2014. Cerén is known for partnering with Salvadoran drug-smuggling and human-trafficking gangs.[2]
