Nicolás Maduro is a politician in Venezuela. From 2006 to 2013 he was the Foreign minister. In 2012 Maduro became Vice President and since the death of Hugo Chavez he is the President of Venezuela. In 2013 he was "officially" elected after he defeated, in a close election, the oppositional candidate Henrique Capriles. He's economically socialist and socially conservative.
On April 19, 2013, Maduro is sworn in a day after the National Electoral Council announces plans to complete an audit of votes cast in Sunday's election "to preserve a climate of harmony between Venezuelans."
Maduros economical policies ruin the country. There is even scarce toilet paper available. Food shortages and corruption are very common and there is an annual inflation rate of more than 45 percent. After that Maduro forced stores to sink the prices. Store managers and owners were arrested. Maduros unveiled the "Deputy Ministry of Supreme Social Happiness" to manage social programs.
The relationship between Venezuela and the USA is strained especially for Maduros eviction of American ambassador and his quote: “Get out of Venezuela! Yankee go home!”. He also forced CNN-employes to leave Venezuela.
