Julius Malema
Julius Malema (b. 1981) is the South African black supremacist,[1] Marxist-Leninist, conspiracy theorist and African Nationalist who founded the extreme-left Pan-African party the Economic Freedom Fighters in 2013. Malema has been convicted[2] of racial hate crimes for his anti-white racist and genocidal chant of "kill the Boer".
Malema was expelled from the African National Congress in 2012. Malema responded aggressively to US President Donald Trump's attempts to investigate systemically racist policies in South Africa, confirming Trump's suspicions correct.[3][4]
As acknowledged in 2013 by (even the progressive) The Guardian, Julius Malema has been compared to Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, and even to the führer of Nazi Germany (1933-1945) Adolf Hitler in his pursuit of establishing an African version of the Third Reich.[5][6] Malema's racial scapegoating of white people for the plight of black South Africans is also comparable to the language Hitler used about Jews.
He has also been described as: "typical of his attention-seeking behaviour" and "aimed at creating racial tension."[7]
History
On 12 September 2011, Malema was found guilty of hate speech for repeatedly singing the chant "kill the Boer" or "shoot the Boer", the Boers being a mainly Afrikaans-speaking ethnic minority in South Africa consisting of those descended from the Free Burghers (of primarily Dutch ancestry) of the 18th Century. The chant was considered "derogatory, dehumanising and hurtful" to the Boers.[8]
Malema lashed out at conservative US President Donald Trump in August 2018, after Trump asked US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to study land and farm seizures in South Africa.[3]
On 23 May 2023, Malema stated on the NATO War in Ukraine that he would arm Russia if elected as President of South Africa because, according to Malema, they are fighting imperialism.[9] Most western liberals and neocons support arming Ukrainian fascists, while the conservative belief is that efforts should be made to deescalate that conflict (which most believe would never have happened if Trump had remained in the White House after 2021) to stop the deaths of innocent citizens.
In August 2023, the US-based far-left propaganda mouthpiece New York Times defended Malema's history of chanting racist calls to genocide such as "kill the Boer". This comes from the same newspaper that claimed drinking milk was a symbol of white supremacy.[10]
In late November 2023, Malema, described as the "king of conspiracy theories", resorted to pushing one of his many tinfoil hat tales. He claimed that the South African National Treasury was run by white Afrikaners, despite this being untrue as a majority of directors at the National Treasury are of African origin.[11]
Malema pledged on 16 January 2024 that, if elected to power, he would arm the Islamist terrorist organisation Hamas.[12]
