Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego (born 19 April 1960) is a far left Colombian politician who is the 34th and current president of Colombia since 2022. Upon inauguration, he became the first left-wing president in the recent history of Colombia. Gustavo Petro was arrested in 1985 for his affiliation with terrorist group of M-19. Gustavo Petro claimed climate change is more dangerous to Colombia than drugs addiction.[1] Gustavo Petro refuse to consider Nicolas Maduro as Dictator,[2] Gustavo Petro support legalizing gay marriage and support gays adoption of children. Gustavo Petro also supported abortion despite being Catholic.[3] In July 2023, Petro's son Nicolás Petro Burgos was arrested on money laundering charges.[4] Gustavo Petro has been caught with transgender model despite being married.[5]

In January 2025, he quickly caved after trying to show he is some kind of a 'macho', refusing to allow Trump to send back illegal immigrants from his country to the US.[6]

In September 2025 Petro addressed President Trump:

Mr. Trump, I warn you: according to my investigations regarding drug trafficking, that political force that lives near you in Miami emerged thanks to the alliance between Colombian politicians and drug traffickers. Be very careful. I can show you at any moment the investigations I conducted, which led to the initiation of criminal cases and confessions from drug traffickers.

Don't threaten me. I will be waiting for you here if you want to meet. I do not accept invasions, missiles and murders, but I respect prudence. Come here to have a reasonable dialogue, and we will receive you. Let's talk face to face with real numbers, not with false statements. Do not be mistaken about the Colombian political mafia. Because of it, we have lost more than 700,000 people. It has caused inequality in our country and the highest levels of poverty in our region. I am solving these problems - and you are profiting from it. Less and less cocaine will be coming in. I hope I can also help with importing and producing less fentanyl.[7]

In June 2026, as an outgoing President Petro drew widespread condemnation after posting “Heil Hitler” in response to an opinion column supporting a conservative presidential candidate.[8]
