The Viet Minh (from Việt Nam Ðộc Lập Ðồng Minh Hội, "League for the Independence of Vietnam") was a communist-led force in Vietnam, fighting against both French colonial occupation and occupation by the Japanese during the Second World War. Its leader was Ho Chi Minh. The group became the government of North Vietnam in 1954.
