This condition, which in some of my columns I have called "anarcho-tyranny," is essentially a kind of Hegelian synthesis of what appear to be dialectical opposites: the combination of oppressive government power against the innocent and the law-abiding and, simultaneously, a grotesque paralysis of the ability or the will to use that power to carry out basic public duties such as protection or public safety. And, it is characteristic of anarcho-tyranny that it not only fails to punish criminals and enforce legitimate order but also criminalizes the innocent.[1]

The term "anarcho-tyranny" is frequently used to describe the regimes of various left-wing national and subnational heads of government. The UK under socialist ruler Keir Starmer, who occupied 10 Downing Street in July 2024, has been described as "anarcho-tyranny" owing to the Starmer regime's two tier response to policing "far-right" civil unrest (see 2024 Starmer riots).[2] California governor Gavin Newsom's vision for America has also been described by The Heritage Foundation as "anarcho-tyranny", wherein he is willing to let violent criminals walk free but utilise government power to oppress ordinary, working-class and law-respecting Americans.[3]
